This topic is one that poses controversy, that one can choose offense to and one that is of utmost important to living victoriously in Jesus Christ our Lord. We know music is powerful, it is called a universal language. Music can change one's heart, mind, mood and emotions in several degrees of intensity and passion. Music seeps down in the spirit and soul --- it has the power to be glorious, to present glorious and lead to a glorious experience; and, it has the power to take one down a dark, deadly path. Whooo. Christian Music, now if we consider the lead handle being Christian... which has the root word Christ in it. And, Christ meaning the anointed One, the Messiah, all leads to Jesus. Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. Amen. Christian music ought to lead you to Jesus. We want to be clear on that. Christian music...now, we find there are all kinds of styles, tunes, tempos and lyrics.
Although it is not only lyrics, it is mainly the lyrics. However, in instrumentals with careful, prayerful observation...and there are some that are obvious -- you can tell if it is filled with light, love or joy versus darkness, distruction and dispair. And, let us go back to lyrics for we can start cleanly be looking at the lyrics, seeing the words, what is the message that the song is relaying.
Some might call this meddling. And, say what I listen to is my own business. Music is just music. So why is this even a topic? It is a topic for the believer to live victoriously in Christ. To prosper and be in health as our soul prospers. For there is a war going on within us, Believers, the spirit against the flesh. When we received Christ as Lord and Saviour...and some says I receive Him as Savior not as Lord, believe me it does not work like that ...Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour of our souls. Thank God for that. Now, when we receive Jesus and sweet Holy Spirit, they graciously take abode and still will not force us to do anything. We can have strong unctions, hear the voice of God, and receive direction ---but, still, we choose. Will I yield and follow the path of righteousness; or do I do what I want to do... my will, not God's will. We have the choice.
What we feed ourselves either strengthens or weakens the flesh. God's Word is the Bread of Heaven for our soul to be led and strengthened by the Spirit, in our spirit. Now, I have seen and/or experienced how God can use anything or anybody to get a message to us; yet, when we pray without ceasing, things do not have to be so dramatic. Well, that is the opinion of this writer. I do see God is quite dramatic in His dealings with mankind and with those He has called and is calling to follow Him. So what am I saying? The book of Psalms, according to my studies is a songbook; there are endless songs found in this book; and, it is not only limited to Psalms. Our God, our Father loves music...music is in the air and music is everywhere. Before Satan exposed himself, he was Lucifer, the star of the morning, filled with beautiful instruments, decked in jewels and orchestrated worshipful music in the heavens unto our awesome God and Father, unto the Godhead. Then, Lucifer got it twisted, he wanted the praise, the songs for himself, toward himself...and derobed as Satan.
Wow. I am getting into this deeper than I planned to go. Let me get to the point...the music and the spirit of the music ought to line up with the Word of God and exalt the Lord! We got a lot of feel good music and alot of the so-called Christian music...is like the blues, and causes depression. We had a sister in our church and thank God she shared it with us; it was a "Christian" song that she played over and over again -- which was filled with pain and misery and crying and begging God. Lord have mercy. That sister started having suicidal thoughts. That is why it is important that Christian music is Christian. And, I will end right here.
